A vast majority of the dyes used in Nepal are imported and synthetic, and since the dying process has few controls, waste dyes are then released into the rivers of the Kathmandu Valley, making them the single largest chemical pollutant of the country’s once clean rivers.

In addition to this ecological disaster, metals in the synthetic dyes are carried downstream, through miles of Indian rivers, potentially affecting the health of millions.

It was imperative to us that if we were to manufacture our clothes in Nepal, we mustn’t add to what is already a major environmental problem, and that is why, wherever possible, we use natural vegetable dyes made from the bark, roots and leaves of local plants to colour our fabrics.
